The Final Cut - Sketchbook Project

It's decision making time. Before I designed the first page in my book I chose a bunch of photos that I've taken around Oregon in the last 3 years and moved them into a folder and printed them as contact sheets. The photos are 2" x 1 1/2". I cut the contact sheet apart and narrowed the selection and now I'm at the critical stage of making the final cut.  Which 7 photos will best represent Oregon?

I have a spread about the western edge, one about grayness and rain.... now what?  Eastern and Central Oregon, for sure. My city (Portland), the rivers, agriculture... by jove, I think I've got it!

My next step will be to do some work in my daily journal. For a big project like this I like to write out my thoughts, first doing some mind-mapping, and then make a plan.  Right now I'm feeling like I limited myself to too few pages, but I have only so much time that I want to give to this project and limiting the pages seemed like the best way to handle it.

  1. Okay, I love that you collect all your photos like that. I want to incorporate more personal images in my journal pages.

And!!!! I love that video!! Wow, makes perfect sense to me. Will you email me the link to that please?? :)

  2. I'm glad you like the video. I learned about mind-mapping 25 years ago and have used it with great success for all kinds of things from party planning to yearly goal setting to lesson plans. If you click on the lower right corner of the video there'll be a place where you can click Watch on YouTube. Then click on "embed" to get the code which you place in your post. If you've never embeded a video go to blogger help and read about how. It's easy. While you are at the mind mapping area of You Tube watch some of the other videos on You Tube, too.

  3. I think you are going about putting your book together in a creative but thoughtful way-- like the term 'mind mapping'.

  6. Enjoyed your process of picking photos-your dialog is like being there in the studio with you. Makes it really fun!

  7. Your sketchbook project is a great idea and I like how you're incorporating your photos and artwork together. Thanks for the mind-mapping
video. This is a technique that I need to use more in creating.

  8. I learned about mind mapping in the early 80s from training by an organizer system which is now defunct. They had planner pages with spaces for mind maps and taught about doing them in business situations... but never anything about using color with them. I'm glad some of you enjoyed the video.
With all embeded YouTube videos if you hover your mouse along the lower right side of the video you'll find a clickable Watch on YouTube link.
Herm, I'm trying to figure out how to include Mt. Hood since I don't have a current photo... Maybe I'll sketch it! In its current brown dirt state it isn't as pretty as when its snow covered.
