Acrylic on Yupo
I'm still exploring Yupo as a substrate for painting and collage. For the uninitiated, Yupo is a synthetic paper that's often used for posters and banners. You can read about it here. It's super smooth and doesn't buckle or wrinkle nor does it absorb water. It's fun to drop watercolor or thinned down acrylic paint onto the surface and watch what happens.

  1. Hi Jo;

    Nice work and sounds like fun to do too. Keep going!

  2. I'm really interested in this paper because you say it doesn't buckle. No matter how heavy a paper I use for collage it wrinkles and I have to have it dry mounted. Your blog and your work is an inspiration for me. Thanks.

    1. Nancy, this is a huge issue for me. I like making collages on hot press watercolor paper, Fabriano Artistico or Arches, but the larger collages buckle and then have to be adhered to something firmer, which adds cost.
      Try the Yupo. It's plastic and I don't know how secure the bond will be with glues like YES paste, but acrylic medium should work. I haven't tried it.
      Mat board works well... until the larger sizes. I'm considering buying cradled boards which in the end may be less expensive than framing. Storage becomes more of an issue.
      I haven't used Rives BFK as a substrate for collage but that may work better than the sized papers.
      Let me know how these work for you.
